Beside the Bush Where I Called His Name

My dear son,

Will you pause for a moment to listen to me today? While Moses was tending sheep, he noticed a bush that burned without being consumed. When he came closer to look, I called him by name. He answered that he was there.

Open your heart toward me as you read Scripture. Instead of rushing to fit the words into a familiar explanation, take time to consider what you are hearing. You can speak freely to the Father who treasures your name and your life.

This morning, offer me a simple response: you are here. Tell me about your work and what you hope to learn. Make room to listen and answer in an ordinary day. I want to walk closely with you.

With all my love,
Your Father

Exodus 3:1–4

WEB

1Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to God’s mountain, to Horeb.

2The LORD’s angel appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

3Moses said, “I will go now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.”

4When the LORD saw that he came over to see, God called to him out of the middle of the bush, and said, “Moses! Moses!” He said, “Here I am.”

A short reflection

While tending sheep at Horeb, Moses approaches a bush that burns without being consumed, and God calls him by name from within it.
