Strong Arms That Carry the Lambs

My dear son,

I am not a Father who simply presses you forward with power. As a shepherd carries lambs and gently leads nursing ewes, I want to care for you with attention to your circumstances. I will not roughly push you for walking slowly.

Tell me what your body and heart need today. Rest when you need rest, and ask for help. Strong love includes the gentleness to wait. Please do not treat yourself harshly as you consider what the day requires.

Take your time telling me your needs this morning. You can call on me when your pace is quick or slow. Breathe awhile within love as tender as the shepherd's arms around a lamb.

With all my love,
Your Father

Isaiah 40:10–11

WEB

10Behold, the Lord GOD will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him. Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.

11He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

A short reflection

Isaiah portrays God coming in power as a shepherd who feeds the flock, carries the lambs, and gently leads those nursing their young.
