Breakfast beside the Charcoal Fire
My dear son,
As morning begins, let yourself enjoy the time to eat. When the disciples came ashore, they found a charcoal fire, fish, and bread that Jesus had prepared. A tender invitation to breakfast welcomed them after their work on the water.
I want your day to include that warmth of sitting down to eat. Care for your body before beginning your tasks, and appreciate a meal. An ordinary table is precious alongside conversations about remarkable things.
Even if you eat alone, nourish yourself with care. When there is company, enjoy that meeting too. I am glad to picture you eating well and beginning your day. My love is close at an ordinary table.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 21:9–12
WEB9So when they got out on the land, they saw a fire of coals there, with fish and bread laid on it.
10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.”
11Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land, full of one hundred fifty-three great fish. Even though there were so many, the net wasn’t torn.
12Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast!” None of the disciples dared inquire of him, “Who are you?” knowing that it was the Lord.
A short reflection
The risen Jesus welcomes the disciples beside a charcoal fire with fish and bread, asks them to bring some of their catch, and invites them to breakfast.
