Your Invitation Is to Follow
My dear son,
You do not have to know another person's whole future before walking your own path. Give your attention to the word calling for your response today. When Peter asked about another disciple, Jesus directed him back to following.
Do not keep comparing the love entrusted to you with someone else's pace. You can celebrate their good news while faithfully keeping your own promises. Each person has relationships to tend and work to do along the way.
Tell me about the people and responsibilities ahead of you this morning. Treasure a truthful step of following over the urge to get ahead quickly. I want you to listen and live faithfully where you are.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 21:20–22
WEB20Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ chest at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”
21Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”
22Jesus said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”
A short reflection
When Peter asks about the future of the beloved disciple, Jesus redirects him from that question to his own responsibility to follow.
