Beside Thomas and His Question

My dear son,

Ask me when you want to know which way to go. Thomas told Jesus that he did not know the way. Jesus answered that he was the way, the truth, and the life. Through him, you too can come to know me.

You need not pretend to know something in order to hide a question. Ask as you read Scripture and look again. I value your trusting nearness to Jesus as you grow in understanding, even before every explanation is clear.

Tell me what you are wondering this morning. When making a small choice, remember Jesus' truthfulness and love. I want a lasting conversation with you as you come toward me.

With all my love,
Your Father

John 14:5–7

WEB

5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.

7If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him.”

A short reflection

When Thomas asks about Jesus' destination and the way, Jesus identifies himself as the way, truth, and life through whom people come to the Father.
