A Doorway into Life

My dear son,

I want you to enjoy the fullness of being alive. Jesus described himself as the sheep's gate and said he came to give abundant life. Come toward the way that nourishes life, away from what steals and harms it.

Consider how you are caring for your life today, beyond how much you possess. Rest when rest is needed, and receive your food with gratitude. The love you receive in relationship with me can nourish your day too.

Treat your body and heart gently this morning, and cherish the lives of those beside you. I welcome your glad enjoyment of grace as you come close to Jesus, the doorway of salvation.

With all my love,
Your Father

7Jesus therefore said to them again, “Most certainly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door.

8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them.

9I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and will find pasture.

10The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.

A short reflection

Jesus calls himself the gate through which the sheep find salvation and pasture, contrasting his gift of abundant life with a thief's destructive purpose.
