Come and Learn for Yourself

My dear son,

Do not assume you know everything about a person from where they come from. Nathanael wondered whether anything good could come from Nazareth. Philip did not try to win an argument; he invited him to come and see.

Give yourself time to learn beyond your first impression. Listening and looking for yourself can reveal truth you had missed. Revising your thinking is nothing to be ashamed of. It can be the pleasure of understanding more clearly.

Hear people out when you meet them today. When reading Scripture, do not rush past familiar words either. I want you to know people and the world with open ears and honest eyes.

45Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

A short reflection

When Nathanael questions Jesus because he comes from Nazareth, Philip invites him to come and see for himself.
