Where Honesty and Forgiveness Meet
My dear son,
I want you to be able to speak truthfully in relationships that matter. If something wrong happens, calmly name it. Also receive with care the sincere return of someone who acknowledges the wrong and asks for forgiveness.
When forgiveness is difficult, begin by telling me how you feel. Instead of counting how many returns to allow, look for a way toward living rightly together. Sharing the necessary responsibility can be an expression of love too.
This morning, you do not need to worry about arguments that have not occurred. Ask me for patience and wisdom. Even the difficulty you feel in loving someone can be spoken here. I want to listen patiently.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 17:3–4
WEB3Be careful. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him.
4If he sins against you seven times in the day, and seven times returns, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”
A short reflection
Jesus teaches the disciples to confront wrongdoing and forgive a repentant person, even when that person returns repeatedly in the same day.
