Love That Comes Close
My dear son,
The Samaritan saw an injured man beside the road, went to him, and bandaged his wounds. He put him on his own animal, found him lodging, and paid for his continuing care. Love became something his hands and feet could offer.
Do not imagine love only as a distant ideal. Listen for what someone needs now, and offer the help you can. If you cannot provide it yourself, you may be able to connect them with someone who can.
Look a little more carefully at the people along your path today. Where you can help safely, be willing. I delight in sincere care for one person, not in how many problems you can solve.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 10:33–35
WEB33But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion,
34came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’
A short reflection
In Jesus' parable, the Samaritan approaches a robbery victim, tends his wounds, takes him to an inn, and pays for his care.
