Make Room to Sit and Listen

My dear son,

Will you sit with me for a little while this morning? You do not have to begin by looking for something to do for me. I treasure the time you spend hearing my words and simply staying near. Quiet is welcome here.

Mary sat at Jesus' feet and listened. Jesus said that her good portion would not be taken away. Leave space among your tasks to meet with me too. Love grows through time spent together.

I am glad for this moment with you. You do not become loved only after every task is finished. Before opening the rest of your day, breathe freely beside me. You are already my precious child.

With all my love,
Your Father

Luke 10:39–42

WEB

39She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word.

40But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she came up to him, and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister left me to serve alone? Ask her therefore to help me.”

41Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,

42but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

A short reflection

While Martha is occupied with hospitality, Mary listens at Jesus' feet. Jesus addresses Martha's anxiety and affirms the good portion Mary has chosen.
