An Ordinary Boat, a Place to Listen

My dear son,

Jesus came alongside fishermen washing their nets by the lake. Simon's ordinary boat became a place from which people heard God's word. I want you to remember that a place to be with me is not far from your everyday life.

Speak to me from your usual chair, the desk where you prepare your work, or the table where you share a meal. You do not need to wait for a special occasion. Your ordinary hours can be shared with me.

Before you begin today's work, will you listen for a moment? As Simon made his boat available, offer me a little of your time. I want to be close to you in the life you already know.

With all my love,
Your Father

Luke 5:1–3

WEB

1Now while the multitude pressed on him and heard the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret.

2He saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.

3He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

A short reflection

Jesus teaches the crowd from Simon's boat on the Lake of Gennesaret, turning a familiar place of work into a place of instruction.
