Lowering the Nets in Trust
My dear son,
You do not need to make your circumstances sound better when you speak to me. Simon honestly said that he had caught nothing all night. Then he went into deeper water at Jesus' direction. Come to me with that same openness.
Tell me how things are, and listen to what I say. When Simon's nets filled with fish, people from another boat came to help. There was joy in working together and sharing in what had happened.
As you begin your part of today's work, speak to me first. You do not have to do everything alone. Let us nurture both a willingness to walk in trust and a readiness to give and receive help.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 5:4–7
WEB4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
5Simon answered him, “Master, we worked all night and caught nothing; but at your word I will let down the net.”
6When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking.
7They beckoned to their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. They came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink.
A short reflection
After a fruitless night, Simon lowers his nets at Jesus' word and catches so many fish that his partners must help.
