Praying with Open Hands
My dear son,
Will you open your hands comfortably and offer me your heart this morning? You do not need to bring them full of accomplishments or gifts. Your desire to seek me is enough to begin our conversation.
Take time to remember what I have done in the days behind you. Give thanks for what you appreciate, and ask honestly for what you need now. You need not hide a longing for me like dry ground waiting for water.
As you lift your hands toward me, I listen to your story. Bring both your joy and your thirst. Receive love and renewed strength beside me, and return to today's life with a heart ready to welcome it.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 143:5–6
WEB5I remember the days of old. I meditate on all your doings. I contemplate the work of your hands.
6I spread out my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land. Selah.
A short reflection
In distress, the psalmist remembers God's past deeds, stretches out his hands in prayer, and longs for God like parched ground.
