Shade at Your Side

My dear son,

When you step into shade along a road, your body feels relief. I am the God who gives you shade at your right hand. You can lean close to me and know my care beside you.

Entrust your life to me through the daytime journey and the hours of night. You do not have to keep everything safe by your own strength. Within my loving care, prepare what you need and value the places where you can rest.

Tell me where you are going today. If someone walks with you, pay attention to each other's pace. Find strength in the shade beside me, and become a restful, thoughtful companion for someone else along the way.

With all my love,
Your Father

5The LORD is your keeper. The LORD is your shade on your right hand.

A short reflection

The pilgrimage psalm describes the Lord as a keeper and shade at the right hand, protecting his people beneath the sun by day and the moon by night.
