Asking for Open Eyes
My dear son,
You can tell me freely that you do not yet understand. Like a traveler who needs directions, you have things to learn as you live. Come close with the hope that I will open your eyes.
There are wonders in my teaching for you to discover slowly. Bring your curiosity instead of assuming there is nothing more to know. As I deal generously with you, be patient and gentle with yourself while you learn.
Will you tell me one question on your heart this morning? You can ask someone reading alongside you, too. May the joy of discovery brighten your heart and give you fresh energy to live what you learn.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 119:17–19
WEB17Do good to your servant. I will live and I will obey your word.
18Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your law.
19I am a stranger on the earth. Don’t hide your commandments from me.
A short reflection
Calling himself a traveler on earth, the petitioner asks God to open his eyes to the wonders of the law and make the commandments known.
