A Prayer Just as You Are

My dear son,

Tell me about your circumstances as they are. You do not need to feel ashamed of asking for what you need. As I hear the plea of a poor petitioner, I listen when you come to me in trust.

Ask for mercy, and ask for joy in your heart. I want more for you than merely enough strength to endure. I want you to have room to laugh and take delight in the days of your life.

Lean on me this morning, and come before me as yourself. You can speak again at any hour. Trust that I am your God, ask honestly, and gladly enjoy the gifts you receive.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 86:1–4

WEB

1Hear, LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.

2Preserve my soul, for I am godly. You, my God, save your servant who trusts in you.

3Be merciful to me, Lord, for I call to you all day long.

4Bring joy to the soul of your servant, for to you, Lord, do I lift up my soul.

A short reflection

A poor and needy petitioner trusts God and asks for protection, mercy, and joy in his heart.
