Peace That Begins with Your Words

My dear son,

May your words bring life to people today. Pause before saying something that diminishes someone, even as a lighthearted joke. Peace can begin when you speak sincerely and leave deception out of your words.

The way you honor me shows in everyday speech and actions. Look for good to do, and willingly seek ways to live at peace. I delight in conversations that help people share life well together.

If you are unsure what to say, ask me for wisdom. I will help you bring honesty and gentleness together. May your voice become a welcome gift to the people you meet in the course of this day.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 34:11–14

WEB

11Come, you children, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12Who is someone who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?

13Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies.

14Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it.

A short reflection

The psalmist teaches reverence for the Lord through avoiding evil and deceitful speech, turning from evil to do good, and diligently seeking peace.
