The World Entrusted to Your Hands

My dear son,

I want to look with you at the world I have made. Birds crossing the sky, fish moving through the water, and the creatures living beside you, large and small, all come from my hand.

I gave people dignity and entrusted this world to their care. It is a gift to cherish and tend, with respect for the life within it. I want your hands to become hands that protect and nurture living things.

Today, you might lovingly care for something small nearby. Saving water or keeping a shared place clean can also express love. Enjoy the world that is dear to me, and let that joy shape the way you care for it.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 8:5–8

WEB

5For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor.

6You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

7All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,

8the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

A short reflection

The psalmist praises God for giving human beings honor and glory and responsibility for the creatures and works of his hands.
