Your Voice in the Morning
My dear son,
When you wake, will you tell me what is in your heart today? I listen to more than carefully arranged prayers. I hear your happy anticipation and the sigh that has not yet become words.
You can lay your concerns before me and stay awhile. Waiting for the way I will lead matters in our relationship, just as telling me what you want does. There is no need to hurry away.
If there is work before you today, we can begin with that. Even a cheerful greeting is welcome to me. You do not have to strain as though calling across a great distance. Speak freely to me as your Father.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 5:1–3
WEB1Give ear to my words, LORD. Consider my meditation.
2Listen to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for I pray to you.
3LORD, in the morning you will hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.
A short reflection
The psalmist brings prayer, groaning, and cries to God, presenting his needs in the morning and waiting expectantly for the Lord.
