Roots for the Morning

My dear son,

Picture a tree rooted beside a stream. The leaves and fruit you can see grow from the water its roots receive. I want my word to enter your heart in that same life-giving way today.

When words that belittle people sound entertaining, or a wrong path looks convenient, keep walking with me. I care about the person you are becoming just as much as the things you hope to gain.

Each tree bears fruit in its own season, so do not rush to compare your growth with someone else's. Keep my word close as you begin today's work. I am glad to watch and wait as good roots grow deeper in your life.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 1:1–3

WEB

1Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers;

2but his delight is in the LORD’s law. On his law he meditates day and night.

3He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.

A short reflection

The psalmist compares the person who rejects wicked ways and delights in the Lord's instruction to a tree planted beside streams of water.
