Examine Your Own Heart First
My dear son,
If you need to offer someone advice, take a look at yourself first. Another person's small speck can be easier to notice than the large plank in your own eye. Examine your words and attitudes honestly before your Father.
If you see something you need to change, you can acknowledge it. That does not take away your ability to love someone. Accepting responsibility and making a change can help you approach others more humbly.
Then offer careful help where it is needed. Speak from a sincere concern for the person, beyond a desire to prove yourself right. Let your eyes and your heart grow clearer today, so you can see people with care.
With all my love,
Your Father
Matthew 7:3–5
WEB3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?
4Or how will you tell your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye,’ and behold, the beam is in your own eye?
5You hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.
A short reflection
Jesus teaches people to correct their own serious faults before pointing out smaller faults in others.
