The Word That Reveals the Heart

My dear son,

I look at the heart within your actions as well as what can be seen outside. My word is alive and brings thoughts and intentions into the light. Come as you are, without preparing an explanation that makes everything look right.

If Scripture reveals something that needs correcting, do not stop at hating yourself. Acknowledge what was hidden and seek a more truthful way to love. You may ask your Father, who knows everything, for help.

Tell me honestly tonight why you made a particular choice. Share good intentions gladly, and let us attend to what needs changing as you entrust it to me. I want honesty to grow in both the inward and outward parts of your life.

With all my love,
Your Father

Hebrews 4:12–13

WEB

12For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
13There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.

A short reflection

Hebrews teaches that God's living, penetrating word reveals the heart's thoughts and intentions, and that no created thing can remain hidden from God's sight.
