The Word That Endures

My dear son,

Grass and wildflowers are beautiful, though they wither as the season passes. I want you to live with full gratitude for the beauty you enjoy now. The passing of a moment does not make the time you loved it meaningless.

Still, do not bind your hope only to things that change. Grass dries and flowers fade, but my word stands forever. Receive from me a word you can depend on while your appearance and circumstances continue to change.

Tell me this evening about a moment you want to remember. Care thoughtfully for your body and your life, and enjoy the time you have been given. Then rest within your Father's word, which endures beyond every change.

With all my love,
Your Father

Isaiah 40:6–8

WEB

6The voice of one saying, “Cry out!” One said, “What shall I cry?” “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field.

7The grass withers, the flower fades, because the LORD’s breath blows on it. Surely the people are like grass.

8The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever.”

A short reflection

Isaiah compares human life and its beauty to grass and flowers that wither, declaring in contrast that the word of God stands forever.
