Preparing with Faith

My dear son,

I value the care with which you prepare for what is ahead. Before crossing the Jordan, Joshua told the people to gather food. Trust in the promise and hands engaged in practical preparation belonged together in that moment.

Trust me as you tend faithfully to what you can do. Finding out what is needed and asking for help are not distant from faith. I want you to act wisely with the part of preparation entrusted to you.

If you have taken care of what needs attention this evening, you may rest. You cannot remove every uncertainty tomorrow might bring. Entrust what remains to your Father. I want you to value both thoughtful preparation and the rest your life needs.

With all my love,
Your Father

Joshua 1:10–11

WEB

10Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

11“Pass through the middle of the camp, and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare food; for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God gives you to possess.’”

A short reflection

Joshua instructs the leaders to tell the people to prepare provisions, because within three days they will cross the Jordan into the land God is giving them.
