Mercy Deeper Than the Sea
My dear son,
I am a Father who delights in steadfast love. Do not think my heart consists only of holding onto your wrongs and remaining angry forever. I take joy in showing mercy to the child who returns to me.
Receive my forgiveness, pictured as sins cast into the depths of the sea. Offer an honest apology and take responsibility for making things right. But endless self-hatred is not what proves that your repentance is sincere.
Let your heart rest in the one who has kept promises made long ago. The love that forgives you is no passing mood. Tonight, as a child who has received mercy, you may look forward to living tomorrow with gratitude.
With all my love,
Your Father
Micah 7:18–20
WEB18Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.
19He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot. You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
20You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.
A short reflection
Micah praises God's mercy in forgiving the remnant and casting sins into the depths of the sea, affirming his faithfulness to the promises made to Jacob and Abraham.
