An Honest Answer About Your Day
My dear son,
When you tell me about your day, you do not need to select only the successful parts. When Jesus asked whether the disciples had caught anything, they said no. They did not have to hide their empty nets from him.
I want you to speak with me about things as they are, instead of spending your energy dressing up the results. If things went well, we can rejoice. If you are still seeking an answer, you may ask for wisdom.
Like the disciples who cast their nets again after hearing Jesus, offer me a heart willing to listen. Tonight, whatever the size of your day's achievements, you may stay here comfortably as a beloved child.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 21:3–6
WEB3Simon Peter said to them, “I’m going fishing.” They told him, “We are also coming with you.” They immediately went out and entered into the boat. That night, they caught nothing.
4But when day had already come, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples didn’t know that it was Jesus.
5Jesus therefore said to them, “Children, have you anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.”
6He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” They cast it therefore, and now they weren’t able to draw it in for the multitude of fish.
A short reflection
After a night without a catch, the disciples follow Jesus' instruction at daybreak to cast the net on the right side of the boat and catch many fish.
