Faith That Makes Room for Questions

My dear son,

If you have questions about faith, tell me honestly. You need not pretend to understand because everyone else seems to. Thomas, too, had a time when he could not immediately accept the joyful testimony of his companions.

I want you to know Jesus more deeply through Scripture and conversation with others, instead of hiding your questions and drifting away alone. Something you do not yet understand does not erase everything you have already learned.

Begin tonight with the question that matters most to you. Give yourself time to learn instead of rushing to close the matter. Your Father's desire is for you to seek me with an honest heart and grow in trust.

With all my love,
Your Father

John 20:24–25

WEB

24But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, wasn’t with them when Jesus came.

25The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

A short reflection

Thomas, absent when the risen Jesus first visits the disciples, says he will not believe their testimony unless he can examine Jesus' wounds himself.
