The Love That Calls Your Name
My dear son,
I want you to know a love that recognizes you and calls you by name. When Jesus called Mary, she recognized the person standing near her. She encountered his love in that familiar call, without needing a long explanation.
Do not stand before me as though you were someone without a name. I am your Father, and the story of your life is precious to me. If you want to know me better, tell me so just as you are.
As this day ends, be at ease here as my beloved child. When you meet others, recognize their worth and welcome them, too. May the tenderness I have offered you find a home in the sound of your own voice.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 20:14–16
WEB14When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, and didn’t know that it was Jesus.
15Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?” She, supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”
16Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him, “Rabboni!” which is to say, “Teacher!”
A short reflection
Mary initially mistakes the risen Jesus for the gardener. When he calls her name, she recognizes him and responds by calling him Teacher.
