What a Truthful Witness Leaves Behind

My dear son,

Do not think your life matters only if you can display something extraordinary. John performed no miraculous sign, yet he spoke truthfully about Jesus. Later, people recognized that what he had said was true and came to believe.

I want you to offer honest words rather than impressive stories you have embellished. Keeping your promises and treating people faithfully can quietly show someone a love they can trust. Such a life has its own weight.

Do not call your day empty simply because its results are not immediately visible. I value the honesty with which you live in the place entrusted to you. This evening, share with me even the good intentions that went unnoticed by others.

40He went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was baptizing at first, and he stayed there.
41Many came to him. They said, “John indeed did no sign, but everything that John said about this man is true.”
42Many believed in him there.

A short reflection

Across the Jordan, people recognize that John's testimony about Jesus was true, even though John performed no signs, and many come to believe in Jesus.
