Life Held in the Shepherd's Hands

My dear son,

As sheep recognize their shepherd's voice, keep my Son's words close as you live. I do not know you merely as an indistinct member of a crowd. Jesus knows his own sheep, and he gives them life.

Do not look only at how tightly you can hold my hand. Consider whose hand is holding you. There is a promise that no one can snatch the sheep from the hands of Jesus and the Father.

Tonight, let your mind rest from the thought that everything must be kept safe by your own strength. Entrust your desire to follow my word to me, and rest. I want you to know the enduring depth of the love that keeps you in life.

With all my love,
Your Father

John 10:27–30

WEB

27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

28I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

29My Father who has given them to me is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

30I and the Father are one.”

A short reflection

Jesus gives eternal life to the sheep who know and follow him, promising that no one can snatch them from his hand or his Father's hand.
