Learning to See Love While You Wait

My dear son,

When there is a wait after you pray, many questions may enter your heart. Even then, do not rush to conclude that waiting means you are unloved. You are welcome to bring those questions into our conversation.

Jesus loved Lazarus and his family, yet stayed where he was for two more days after hearing the news. Love had not vanished during the time they could not understand. The pace you understand cannot measure everything in my heart.

I want you to seek me honestly instead of forcing yourself to invent an explanation. If you are waiting for something, ask also for the help you need today. Tonight, you may entrust even what you do not understand to your Father.

With all my love,
Your Father

John 11:3–6

3The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”

4But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”

5Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

6When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.

A short reflection

After hearing that Lazarus is sick, Jesus speaks of God's glory through the illness. Though he loves the family, he remains where he is for two more days.
