Bringing Everyday Responsibilities Before Me
My dear son,
Your love for me belongs alongside the responsibilities of ordinary life. Jesus taught people to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar and God what belongs to God. Let that help you consider carefully what you are responsible for honoring.
As they looked at the face on the coin, you can look at where your time and attention are going. Fulfill your obligations to people honestly, while giving the deepest place in your life to me.
Tell me tonight about the roles you hold and the decisions before you. I do not want our relationship confined to times of worship. In handling money and keeping promises, too, I want you to live as my child.
With all my love,
Your Father

WEB19Show me the tax money.” They brought to him a denarius.
20He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”
21They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
22When they heard it, they marveled, and left him and went away.
A short reflection
When tested about paying taxes, Jesus points to the coin's image and inscription, then tells people to give Caesar what is Caesar's and God what is God's.
