Learning to Look with Humility
My dear son,
I hope you will not assume you know someone's whole story after hearing only a few words. Just as there are things about your life that other people do not know, that person has a story you have not yet heard.
Consider whether you could apply to yourself the strict measure you use for another person. I want you to grow in discerning right from wrong while keeping a heart that does not quickly write someone off.
Tonight, set aside any rushed conclusions about people for a while. You, too, are a beloved child living within my mercy. With eyes shaped by the love you have received, look at your neighbor a little longer and more gently.
With all my love,
Your Father
Matthew 7:1–2
WEB1“Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged.
2For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.
A short reflection
Jesus warns against judging others, teaching that people will be judged by God according to the judgment and measure they apply to others.
