Love That Continues Beyond Worship

My dear son,

I want the songs and prayers you offer me to continue into your daily life. I love seeing you treat people with care at the table, on the road, and at work, as well as when you gather to worship.

Jesus welcomed the observation that loving God and one's neighbor matters more than many offerings. I do not want all your attention to go toward getting the outward forms right while you overlook the people waiting to be loved.

If you shared a kindness today, I would like to rejoice with you. If there is someone you still find difficult to love, tell me about that as well. May your worship and your daily life grow toward the same love.

With all my love,
Your Father

Mark 12:32–34

WEB

32The scribe said to him, “Truly, teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he;

33and to love him with all the heart, with all the understanding, all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

34When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from God’s Kingdom.” No one dared ask him any question after that.

A short reflection

A scribe says that loving God and one's neighbor is greater than sacrifices. Recognizing the wisdom of his answer, Jesus tells him he is not far from God's kingdom.
