A Small Portion Lifted in Thanks
My dear son,
When five loaves and two fish were placed in Jesus' hands, he first offered thanks. As you look at what you have, I hope comparison with someone else's portion will not keep you from noticing the gifts in your own life.
Like those who sat on the grass and received the bread, enjoy your food with gratitude. Love is not a responsibility entrusted only to people with plenty. A hand offering something small can carry love just as truly.
I want you to know the joy of receiving and the joy of sharing. Tonight, you can tell me about a meal you were grateful for. It brings me delight to see gratitude finding a welcome place at your table.
With all my love,
Your Father
Mark 6:38–41
WEB38He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go see.” When they knew, they said, “Five, and two fish.”
39He commanded them that everyone should sit down in groups on the green grass.
40They sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.
41He took the five loaves and the two fish; and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves, and he gave to his disciples to set before them, and he divided the two fish among them all.
A short reflection
Jesus blesses the five loaves and two fish the disciples have found, then has the disciples distribute them to the people seated on the grass.
