Seeing the People in the Crowd
My dear son,
I value each person within a crowd. When Jesus saw the people in the wilderness, he noticed more than their need for teaching; he considered their hunger, too. My love comes close to the practical realities of people's lives.
When you care for someone, listen gently to discover what they actually need. I would not want your search for impressive words to make you overlook a meal or a place to sit together. Those simple gifts can matter greatly.
You do not have to carry everyone's needs by yourself. Share what you have and join hands with others who can help. This evening, receive this truth for yourself as well: you are one of the precious people I want to care for.
With all my love,
Your Father
Mark 6:34–37
WEB34Jesus came out, saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
35When it was late in the day, his disciples came to him and said, “This place is deserted, and it is late in the day.
36Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.”
37But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
A short reflection
Jesus compassionately teaches the crowd, seeing them as sheep without a shepherd. When the disciples suggest sending them away at evening, he tells them to provide food.
