The Kingdom in a Mustard Seed
My dear son,
A mustard seed, so small you might hardly notice it in your palm, can grow branches that shelter birds. I used that seed to speak of my kingdom. The size of a beginning does not tell the whole story.
Do not dismiss the small acts of love you offer with my kingdom in view. Even when the results are not immediately visible, your willingness to trust me and nurture what is good is precious in my sight.
I want you to offer someone a place of shade and rest, rather than compete over who has grown larger. You do not have to measure every bit of growth tonight. Rest in trust in me, the one who makes my kingdom grow.
With all my love,
Your Father
Mark 4:30–32
WEB30He said, “How will we liken God’s Kingdom? Or with what parable will we illustrate it?
31It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seeds that are on the earth,
32yet when it is sown, grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”
A short reflection
Jesus compares God's kingdom to a tiny mustard seed that grows branches large enough to shelter birds, illustrating its small beginning and eventual growth.
