The Hand That Reached Near
My dear son,
I care about the quiet circumstances inside one home as much as the stories of a great crowd. When Simon's mother-in-law lay sick, Jesus went close and took her hand. I want you to know that tenderness, too.
When you need care, you do not have to pretend you are fine on your own. Tell me what is happening, and accept help from people as well. Caring attentively for your body and your daily life is no small matter.
It brings me joy when you pass along the love you have received. Still, you do not have to accomplish something to be loved. Care for your body and rest tonight. I love you when you receive care as surely as when you give it.
With all my love,
Your Father
Mark 1:29–31
WEB29Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.
31He came and took her by the hand and raised her up. The fever left her immediately, and she served them.
A short reflection
Jesus approaches Simon's mother-in-law, who is in bed with a fever, and takes her hand to help her up. The fever leaves her, and she serves them.
