Α · ΩEnd Your Day

A Table at the End of the Road

My dear son,

You can come close to me on an ordinary evening, as daylight fades and you sit down to eat. You do not have to be somewhere special to encounter my love. The small, everyday places of your life matter to me.

The two travelers to Emmaus asked Jesus to stay. When they received the bread he broke and gave them, they recognized him. At the table, they discovered the love they had not recognized along the road.

Take time to receive what this day has given you. I welcome your gratitude for a meal and for the people who shared your company. This evening, I am glad to hear you say that you want to stay with me.

With all my love,
Your Father

28They came near to the village where they were going, and he acted like he would go further.

29They urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over.” He went in to stay with them.

30When he had sat down at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave it to them.

31Their eyes were opened and they recognized him; then he vanished out of their sight.

A short reflection

At evening, the two travelers to Emmaus invite Jesus to stay. Their eyes are opened to recognize him when he blesses and breaks bread at the table.
