Praise for the Coming King
My dear son,
I love hearing you call my name with joy. You do not need an impressive song. You may turn toward me with a smile and tell me about something that made you thankful during the ordinary course of your day.
On the road to Jerusalem, the disciples raised their voices to welcome the coming King. Some people tried to quiet their joy, but Jesus willingly received their praise. Their gladness had a rightful place before him.
When gratitude rises in you, you need not keep it tucked away. Tell me about the laughter you shared and the good things you enjoyed. Even one quiet line of a hymn this evening is welcome when you offer it from your heart.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 19:37–40
WEB37As he was now getting near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen,
38saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!”
39Some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40He answered them, “I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out.”
A short reflection
As Jesus approaches Jerusalem, his disciples praise him as the coming King. Some Pharisees object, but Jesus affirms that their praise is fitting.
