You Can Tell Me Your Side

My dear son,

If there is something you especially want to explain to me, take your time. I want to hear honestly about what you hope for and what you struggle to understand. You need not be afraid to speak your mind with your Father.

You may lay out your circumstances in detail and ask the questions on your heart. I do not want to be a father who uses his power to silence you. Your desire to be heard matters to me, so speak freely.

Let us spend time with your story tonight. Even the questions without clear answers have a place between us. I want you to call me close and keep the conversation going, instead of carrying every thought silently inside.

With all my love,
Your Father

Job 23:4–6

WEB

4I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

5I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me.

6Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me.

A short reflection

Job longs to present his case before God and hear an answer, trusting that God will listen rather than overpower him.
