Staying Beside Another's Tears

My dear son,

Your willingness to notice a neighbor's pain and respond tenderly matters to me. Being unable to solve everything does not leave you with no love to offer. Listening and staying close are valuable gifts in their own right.

The prayer of someone weeping like a flowing river over a ruined city reached me. That voice carried more than one person's sorrow; it carried the grief of a whole community. You may bring me the names of others in the same way.

Let us remember the people you want to pray for tonight. Offer what care you can, and let your own body rest as well. I am your Father, and I want you to care for yourself so you can keep loving others.

With all my love,
Your Father

49My eye pours down and doesn’t cease, without any intermission,

50until the LORD looks down, and sees from heaven.

A short reflection
