Room for Weeping and Laughter

My dear son,

When you laugh, I want to laugh with you; when tears come, I want to stay quietly beside you. I am not a Father who decides in advance how you must feel before you arrive. Tell me how you truly are.

Life has times for weeping and laughter, for mourning and dancing. Enjoy happy hours fully, and offer sorrow tender care. Respect the different seasons you and your neighbors are living through.

Greet me tonight with words that fit your heart. Share what delighted you, or stay quiet if that is what you want. Time close to you is precious to me, whatever kind of moment you bring into our company.

With all my love,
Your Father
