Attending Closely to What Is Entrusted to You
My dear son,
Love appears in careful attention to nearby responsibilities as well as in great undertakings far away. Learn the circumstances of the people you cherish and the work you care for. An interested question can hold real devotion.
Like someone who knows the condition of a flock and provides its food, tend your immediate responsibilities with kindness. Wealth and position do not always remain, but today's faithfulness is precious. I gladly see the care you give to what has been entrusted to your hands.
Look back gratefully on what you tended this evening, and let your body rest too. Everything need not be finished today. Your Father warmly greets the person who will live with care again tomorrow.
With all my love,
Your Father
Proverbs 27:23–24
WEB23Know well the state of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds,
24for riches are not forever, nor does the crown endure to all generations.
A short reflection
The teacher in Proverbs urges close knowledge and careful tending of flocks, since wealth and royal status do not endure forever.
