The Care of Words That Heal
My dear son,
Your words have power to reach another person's heart. I hope that power becomes medicine for a wound, rather than a blade that causes one. I want tenderness to grow on the lips of my beloved child.
Even the same truth can be spoken with concern for the person hearing it. When you explain what is right, pay attention to their face. Go beyond demonstrating what you know and seek the words that will truly help.
Speak gently to yourself tonight too. Correct what needs correction and gladly acknowledge what went well. As I speak kindly to you, may you share warm words with your neighbors and let care shape your speech.
With all my love,
Your Father
Proverbs 12:18
WEB18There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.
A short reflection
Proverbs compares reckless speech to sword thrusts and the tongue of the wise to healing, contrasting the harm and restoration words can bring.
