Resting with a Trusting Heart

My dear son,

I hope you have a place to lie down comfortably after the day's work. Tonight, let your heart lean toward me. I want to offer you the gentle invitation to rest while trusting your Father.

You do not have to endure every possible event of tomorrow in advance tonight. Even when something unexpected happens, you can ask me which path is right. Learn from me the wisdom that watches the road and avoids a snare.

Make the preparations that are needed this evening, then settle peacefully. If you shared a happy moment with someone you love, tell me about it. Your Father is here with a heart that wants to make room for your rest.

With all my love,
Your Father

Proverbs 3:24–26

WEB

24When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.

25Don’t be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes;

26for the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.

A short reflection

The teacher in Proverbs describes lying down without fear, urges freedom from dread of sudden disaster, and points to the Lord as the source of confidence and protection.
