Learning within Love

My dear son,

Because I love you, I will not always tell you only what is easy to hear. There is a Father's care in showing you what needs correction. I want you to grow into a person of greater honesty and goodness.

Lift your face as you receive my teaching. Ask about what you do not understand and acknowledge wrongdoing honestly. Your struggles to learn do not erase your worth. Trust my love as you continue growing.

If something needs reflection tonight, let us talk about it calmly. Carry what you have learned into tomorrow a little at a time. I delight in seeing my beloved child discover the right path more than in counting mistakes.

With all my love,
Your Father

Proverbs 3:11–12

WEB

11My son, don’t despise the LORD’s discipline, neither be weary of his correction;

12for whom the LORD loves, he corrects, even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.

A short reflection

The father in Proverbs urges his child not to reject the Lord's discipline, comparing God's correction of those he loves to a father's care for his child.
