A Prayer You Can Offer Anywhere

My dear son,

Moving farther away does not have to mean growing distant from me. Speak to me in an unfamiliar room or a familiar place. Wherever you are, call on me as the Father who is close to you.

Even beyond the sunrise or at the farthest edge of the sea, you cannot travel outside my reach. In heaven and in the depths, I remain God. In this wide world, I do not regard you as a name I have lost. Lean on me.

Rest where you are this evening, and let us talk. We can remember loved ones who are far away too. Enjoy the gift of loving and praying even when distance seems great to our eyes.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 139:7–10

7Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence?

8If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there!

9If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea,

10even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.

A short reflection

The psalmist declares that God's presence reaches heaven, the realm of the dead, the sunrise, and the far side of the sea, with his hand guiding and holding him everywhere.
