When Prayer Has No Words

My dear son,

There are days when you want to pray and cannot find what to say. You can still come to me. Your heart turning toward me matters more than a smoothly worded sentence, so give yourself time.

The Spirit helps you in your weakness and intercedes for you where your own words fall short. I am the Father who searches your heart. Limited words do not close the way between us.

Tonight, you may simply call my name and stay. Tell me one thing you are thankful for, or share something you need. Set down the pressure to explain everything, and rest beside the one who knows you.

With all my love,
Your Father

26In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

27He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.

A short reflection

Paul teaches that the Spirit helps believers in weakness and intercedes for them according to God's will with groanings beyond words.
