With You in the Valley

My dear son,

I want to stay beside you tonight as the shepherd who cares for you. My presence is with you in green pastures and on darker paths where the way ahead is hard to see. I keep watch over you there, too.

When a path frightens you, speak to me as you go. You can depend on the staff that guides you and the care that steadies you. Your Father is close enough to hear your call.

If you are at ease now, enjoy that rest with me. If you need help tonight, tell me what is on your heart. Wherever your path leads, finish this day within your shepherd's love.

A short reflection

The psalmist trusts the shepherd God's presence and guidance even in the valley of death's shadow and declares that he will not fear.
